iSurprise Darunbannalai Children’s Library

A children’s favourite in an ancient wooden house

First children’s library in Thailand

Darunbannalai is the nation’s first library designed specifically for children. Step inside and one feels like a giant. Every feature has been measured for ease of use by a child and shrunken, a rarity in a country where public libraries are few and far between.

A house of many reincarnations

The wooden house is approximately 100 years old built as the office for The Revenue Department. After, it served as an outpatient department ward of the Department of Mental Health. It was abandoned for years before a royal project revived it as a children’s library.

Active programming

The organizers of the library regularly organize activities for knowledge sharing. Wednesday and weekend bookreadings are popular.
