iSurprise No. 73 Pedlar Street

House dating back to the Dutch days when this was Moore Street

This house was built in the Dutch period when Pedlar Street was still called Moore Street.

The house

This house was built in 1847, in the Dutch Period when Pedlar Street was still called Moore Street; its original owner was also of Moorish descent. In 1954, during the late British period, the property was refurbished. A passage connected to the house was created to carry water to the toilet, a typical feature of homes built after 1890. Some clay walls were replaced by concrete walls, and the arched veranda was closed off.
