Property in typical Dutch Period style
- Pedlar Street, Galle Fort
The house
Built during the Dutch era, this house boasts archetypical large windows that can be opened in and out to let in the ocean breeze. The massive doors with wooden ventilation screens are another characteristically Dutch feature. The property also has a courtyard in the back to optimise air circulation. The family lightly renovated the home in 2021; they broke down the pillars in front of the kitchen, lowered the pillars and removed a wall between the first bedroom and the living room to make their home more spacious. They stayed true to the home's original design and used brick and coral, like in the olden days.
