Myths and legends
One of the oldest pols of the city, this neighbourhood has many beautiful wooden havelis and also many stories and legends: of Ganesh idols which are mysteriously hidden in deep wells and magical scorpions.
A nest of scorpions!
Near the south entrance of the pol, you will find a lane of houses that make up a smaller pol, called ‘Vicchi ni Pol’, or the neighbourhood of scorpions! Long-time resident Nilesh Shah shares: “Once, a handful of scorpions were found inside the houses, giving the neighbourhood its name. My grandfather, a well-known medicine man, was a gifted clairvoyant who could communicate with the scorpions, extract them from the houses and guide them to the gutters.”
All roads leads to Manek Chowk!
This neighbourhood of wide and narrow lanes, all somehow lead to Manek Chowk.
