House of spice
One of the older buildings at Lighthouse Street. The old brick wall inside reveals the history as a spice warehouse dating back to the 17th century. Later it was home to a Montessori kindergarten.
Galle is at once endlessly exotic, bursting with the scent of spices and salty winds and yet also vaguely familiar, like a whimsical medieval European down unexpectedly deposited in the tropics
Fortaleza
In 2008 the complex was renovated and turned into guestrooms for Fortaleza Hotel, named after the first fortification in Galle: the Black Fort.
