iSurprise Jaffna Archaeology Museum

Indigenous and colonial artefacts on display

I love visiting the archaeology museum because I can learn about domestic and foreign relations through coins there. The museum also has remnants of the deities excavated in Jaffna, who are believed to be Murugan Sakthi Pillaiyar Buddha.

About the museum

Jaffna Archaeology Museum houses a rare collection of antiquities, such as religious items made of metal, wood and stone. You will also find many artefacts from the colonial era here, such as inscriptions, sculptures, accessories, games, and even anthropological artefacts such as whale bones. What makes this museum special is that it showcases the three religions—Hinduism, Buddhism and Christianity—in the Jaffna region.
