iSee King’s Bridge

Ratchadapisek Bridge, also called as White Bridge, was named after the 40th anniversary of King Rama V’s reign. In the old days it was an iron-wood bridge. After collapsing three times because the large logs hitting the bridge during the flood season, King Rama VI constructed this modern iron bridge in 1917.

This bridge has survived wartime bombings because of its camouflage painting. Legend has it that there was a smart lady Mrs. Lucy Scarling (the former adviser of the Allies), who affirmed her clients that the bridge had no significance as a strategic point for the country. “I was a ghast, for the bridge was a mile from the railroad, and had no strategic value whatsoever. It was a lovely structure” said Lucy.
