iSurprise St. Paul Hill

In Hikayat Abdullah, Abdullah describes a church located on a hill in Bandar Hilir: “Inside the Malacca Fort there was a rise of moderate elevation, at the summit of which was the Dutch church. Originally it had been a Portuguese church and had been taken over by the Dutch as their own church. Below it was the Dutch cemetery. The church at the top of the hill was called San Paulo in Portuguese.”
