- 7, Jalan Tengkera
Known as the suburb of Upeh during the Malay Sultanate period. It became known as Tranqueira during the Portuguese era which means “rampart,” referring to the defensive wall built surrounding Upeh. Though Tengkera used to have a coastline, much has been lost through land reclamations.
Abdullah wrote about a sadistic English officer, Mr Beanin Tengkera, who would capture boys passing his gate and force them to box each other. He delighted in human blood flowing.
