Fujianese migrants
In the 60s, the areas around Chung Yeung Street, Kiu Kwun Mansion and Metropole Building became a heaven for the Fujianese community. Right in the middle of it is Kiu Kwun Mansion, a piece of modernistic architecture, but more importantly, the printing house of The Commercial Press Company.
The Commercial Press
Founded more than a century ago in Shanghai as China’s first publishing house, it was a major milestone. When they expanded to Hong Kong in the 1930s, the printing press landed in North Point, occupying 140 thousand square feet. The current Sunbeam Theatre was also part of the press.
