The Poblacion brewing brothers
Joe and Marco Viray, two brothers from Poblacion started brewing at the back of their mother’s house. The wanted their friends to be able to taste it fresh, so they added a taproom. The humble beginnings of what is now one of Makati’s most popular brewing pubs.
Local flavours
The brothers take pride in their 100% Filipino craft beer made from all-natural ingredients. Joe spent a year in the US to learn how to brew wheat beer, pale ale and IPA’s. Back in Manila, he went back to his own roots to create beers with local flavours. “We try to use only local ingredients, but there are certain grains that are not cultivated locally – that’s a thing we still have to import” says Joe.
Steampunk vibes
The brewing pub’s industrial chic interior is dotted with curios - including a fighter plane replica dangling from the ceiling - and makes for a grungy homey atmosphere.
Our favourite beers: Fishrider Pale Ale
Joe’s Brews flagship beer, one of their pioneering brews, refreshing with hints of grapefruit and caramel.
34th Pursuit IPA
Homage to the brother’s lolo (grandfather) who had been fighter pilot in the 1940s, the light amber beer leaves a clean hoppy taste in the mouth.
