iEat Kim Chong Tin Hopia Factory

Quiapo’s oldest hopia house where they make pastries the old-fashioned way

A Quiapo original

Kim Chong Tin Hopia Factory is one of Manila’s oldest, founded by Chinese immigrant Ong Phi Pei in the 1920s. This bakery is a Quiapo original, not a spin-off of a Binondo bakery like many others. Here hopia is made the old-fashioned way, in a traditional charcoal-fired brick oven. Manager Francisco Ong, grandson of founder Kim says: ‘We are famous for our delicious flaky Hopia, we have been following the same recipe since the 1920s.’

Quiapo’s best hopia

This is one the best places to try a hopia. We like the Mongo or Red Bean, rich and sweet. Get a pack of six for 50 pesos or try a fresh one, straight out of the oven for just 8 pesos.
