Market community
This wet market is a community in itself. In the maze of narrow lanes around the 1939 market block you find residents haggling over prices, picking the freshest vegetables and heading to their favourite restaurants.
Bird land
Many locals still refer to this place as 'Bird Land'. It once was a dense forest just outside the city walls popular for hunting birds.
Street food experience
Horta da Mitra is the place for a true local street food experience. Pop on a plastic chair, grab a pair of chopsticks and feast with your neighbours on a cheap and cheerful meal. Just outside the market building is Shing Kee成記, a local favourite for traditional Cantonese sweet soups. Try the red bean soup with dumpling balls (MOP $12.5). Finish off with a clay pot cooked coffee at next door Long Kei Café.
Bloom coffee house
Fancy a barista made macchiato instead? Try brand new Bloom Coffee House around the corner of the market. Part of the same family as nearby Single Origin, so you know they take their coffee seriously.
