One of the 12 remaining gates of the original Fort, landmark and popular hangout place.
A glorious past
As a flourishing medieval city, Ahmedabad was fortified by walls, built in phases as the city grew and changed. Of the original 15th century structure 12 darwazas (gates) remain, a solemn reminder of its glorious, secular past. The Astodia gate is on the southern part of the old fort border and is adorned with lotus motifs.
Catch a bus or a snack
Next to the Astodia gate is the Ahmedabad Central Bus Station. The large volume of commuters have brought many food and shopping places to this area. Astodia Bhajiya house is a popular one among the auto rickshaws and two-wheelers drivers who come here for fresh bhajiyas (fried savoury snacks)! Stop by for a bite of these spicy delights- served with a tangy chutney and hot chillies!
