Quiet pol life

Deep into Lakha Patel ni Pol, is a gate that welcomes you to ‘Surdas Sheth ni Pol’. Colloquially known as ‘Sheth ni Pol’, this is a quiet neighbourhood, with a gaggle of old men invariably sitting on their porches, watching people passing by and reading the day’s newspaper. It’s their stories that reveal the many qualities of their pol. The once prosperous neighbourhood was home to mill-merchants and rich businessmen both Jain and Hindu!

What’s in a name?

Who was Surdas Sheth? We ask the old men: “Who knows? He must’ve been a great man!” Thanks to him we see this wonderful, prosperous pol today“says Ramnikbhai, a long-time resident.
