iSurprise Between Two Gates

This is one of Kotagede’s real gems. Known as ‘between two gates’ - it is a unique complex of traditional Javanese Joglo houses dating back to 1840. This site was originally the square that formed the entrance (alun alun) to the palace (kraton). This area is therefore still referred to by the locals as kampung alun alun.

Stroll ‘between the two gates’ and soak up the tranquil but friendly atmosphere. Admire the original window and door carvings, many coming from the original Mataram era. This is also a good place to pick up traditional products of Kotagede such as silver and batik.
