Legendary watchman
Mr Ng, a legend in the local watch industry, has been repairing watches since he first set foot in Hong Kong in 1947. Tucked under the staircase of an old building, the tiny shop of his wasn't eye-catching at all, but his ability to fix any watch in the blink of an eye gained him a stellar reputation far beyond Kowloon City.
Celebrity clients
Over the years, Mr Ng had a loyal celebrity customer base, including Chow Yun-Fat, one of Asia's most famous actors. Mr Ng's personal watch collection even featured in movies such as the 1987 romantic drama An Autumn's Tale.
Only memories remain
Over the years, government officials have repeatedly evicted Mr Ng from his under-the-staircase shop. Petitions from neighbours didn't help, and he eventually had to close up shop. Whether or not the legendary watchman will continue his business somewhere else remains a mystery, but one thing is for sure: his delicate watch-repairing skills will forever prevail as a legend of Kowloon City.
