Creativity meets sustainability
Founder Daw Phyu Ei Thein has creative genes, her father is an artist. The born and bred Sanchaung girl is the brains behind Sunflower an initiative that sources textiles from rural areas all over Myanmar, promoting sustainability in every step of the process: by using natural dyes and paying hear weavers not by piece, but providing them a stable and secure income. The hands-on Phyu also travels to Chin, Shan and Rahkine on a regular basis to give training to weavers and tailors on creating quality products.
Lotus, silk & cotton
The shop - tucked away on the first floor - has been around for over 10 years and has people coming from afar for the unique products. Pick from a selection of wonderfully soft silk scarfs, cotton blouses and lotus pillow covers in a palette of pale colours from the natural dyes. Want to know more? Visit their weaving studio in Nyaung Shwe, near Inle Lake.
