Bangkok Talad Noi

Perched between the much-visited China Town and Bangrak Creative District is the city’s hidden gem; one of Bangkok’s oldest neighbourhoods and my personal favourite. Talad Noi means small market, it was the city’s first port and landing place for many immigrants, including Chinese, Vietnamese, Khmer and Portuguese. What few people may know is that Talad Noi is actually Bangkok’s original Chinatown. An almost forgotten pocket in Bangkok’s high-rise urban jungle, the shophouse-lined streets make for a neighbourhood that is surprisingly untouched. A multicultural melting pot, Talad Noi is home to many old shrines, hidden temples, and authentic eateries and is incredibly photogenic, the best place in Bangkok for street art. This walk shares my favourite places in the hood, but make sure to venture off the beaten track, so many small surprises are hidden in the small back lanes and long winding roads.
