iEat Happy Cake Shop

One of the longest-standing neighbourhood bakeries in this ever-changing area

Neighbourhood bakery

The legendary Happy Cake Shop was founded by Uncle Ping, who like many others, swam across the border into Hong Kong during the refugee wave. With hard work and perseverance, he mastered breadmaking skills and eventually set up his own store on Queen’s Road East in 1977. Now over 40 years in business, Happy Cake Shop is one of the longest-standing eateries in this ever-changing area. Step into this store and be catapulted back to the 70s with nostalgic setting, affordable prices and friendly neighbourhood faces.

40 years of dedication

Every day this little bakery sells over 40 types of traditional bread and pastries, all based on original recipes and authentic flavours. The team starts at the crack of dawn to be ready with fresh buns for their loyal early bird customers.

Local touch

This is also one of the very few bakeries where you can still find cream cones; an old-school snack of cone-shaped pastry crusts filled with a mouthful of fresh thick cream. Another fast-vanishing original Hong Kong must-try are the cocktail buns –coconut fillings wrapped in buttery fresh bread.

It’s tasty and traditional, I come here to get my breakfast or afternoon tea.
